About the Requirements Unit
The University Requirements Unit is a basic pillar of the University of Kalamoon that receives the students of all faculties and seeks to prepare them for studying the major at their faculties particularly because the university study has been a paradigm shift in the student’s life. This requires preparation and qualification that elevate thinking skills and culture in the humanities, digital (electronic) learning and physical fitness.
Technology is available there in teaching the University requirements. So, for teaching English, two English language labs are employed and each contains a modern network of computers connected to the teacher’s main computer which enables the students to communicate with various programmes for explaining glossary and terminology; and to use the new presentation programmes and I-Pad in addition to the curriculum website for solving the exercises of the scheduled lesson.
The Requirements Unit is interested in learning by practice, so it organizes learning and educating student activities such as: contests in literary and scientific writing (short story, poetry stanza “Al-Kalamoon Poet”, literary thought, scientific essay, etc.) in addition to the evenings of (polemic poetry, drama scenes, debates, reciting selected poems…). This will contribute to the refining of students’ writing tools and promoting their creative talents and language, besides a set of events provided by the Unit in line with empowering the Arabic language such as the general lectures and seminars which host thinkers and linguists and aim at tackling some of the Arabic language problems.
As the University of Kalamoon has been keen to establish its structure on solid foundations keeping up with the spirit and requirement of modernity; and to provide the society with cadres of balanced personalities enjoying the three elements of culture where scientific and humanitarian disciplines along with the inspiration of world universities experiences are interconnected; the University established the university Requirements Unit look after this important cognitive aspect and coordinate its affairs and requisites.
Mission:
The Requirements Unit seeks to enable new students to engage actively in university studies. Therefore, it endeavors to enable them to cope with modern university curricula and develop their understanding of a wide spectrum of human sciences in order to understand the local and international dynamics of the 21st century and participate in discussing them. It further seeks to refine students’ communication skills in both Arabic and English, equip them with the necessary computer skills and the ability to identify different information sources, all of which students need for a successful academic and professional life to provide high quality work and production in this digital, changing and multicultural world.
Objectives:
1- refining students language skills in terms of using standard Arabic, active listening, functional writing, article analysis, in addition to other thinking and imagination skills in Arabic
2- equipping students with speaking, active listening, functional writing and reading comprehension in English to help them succeed in their academic life and engage in the labor market
3- introducing students to the motor and physiological functions of body systems and the principles of healthy diet and improving their physical fitness through practicing individual and group sport activities
4- acquainting students with some human sciences (psychology/ history/ ecology/ sociology/ basics of management/ logic…etc) and teaching them a third international language in order to master the elements of the third culture in which the sciences and humanities are intertwined to create balanced personalities
5- introducing students to the basic concepts of computer sciences, computer components, input, output and storing devices and practically training them to use the following programs: Windows XP, Word, Power Point, Outlook
6- equipping students with self-learning skills, the necessary communication skills to use the different information sources (library/ internet/ periodicals) and higher-order cognitive skills including thinking, analysis, deduction and assessment without spoon feeding, memorization and repetition
In order to fulfill the above mentioned goals, the courses of the Requirements Unit fall into two categories: mandatory courses and optional courses.
